slush

we have had some gorgeous days lately, and all our snow is melting away.  in fact, as i peer outside the windows this morning, i can't see any snow anywhere....even those big piles that were sitting in the shade of the garage have disappeared!

i love that sign that spring is on the way!

and so does hendrix.

he has spent a good deal of time in his rainboots lately.

as we were coming in from the van yesterday, he just sighs and says, 'mommy, i love being outside!'

i hear you pal, me too ;)

you might remember that hendrix used to have a slight obsession with horses.  over time that obsession has dwindled a bit, though he is still fascinated by them whenever we see them.  well, the mamas at the horse barns down the street have all had their lil' babes now and we enjoyed wandering over there to peek at the colts.

he proudly told blaire all about the barns and what horses like to eat and what they say.....it was fun to see him sharing a space that he was proud of with her ;)

love his spirit.  love his energy. and really love his smile!

happy spring puddles to you, too! ;)

going to feed the horses!

hendrix horse obsession is still alive and strong.  he insists that we buy carrots every time we are at the grocery store, just to feed to the horses.  and then he has to hold them in the car on the way there, yelling horsey, the entire ride.

his love for horses has encouraged a love for carrots though, so i can't really complain about that.  i think that he wonders if he can eat enough carrots to turn into a horse...... ;)  we also feed carrots to his rocking horse, and his stuffed horse.  gotta share the love!

he is also getting more and more daring about the horses.  at first he was fascinated but a little frightened by how large they were.  he wanted to be held, and didn't really want to touch them.

now he feeds them all by himself, and sometimes scares me as he seems fearless of their teeth.

we have to walk around and say hi to all the horses before we leave (which there are currently probably over 20 at the stables on campus, including 6 or 7 baby horses), oh and he knows the difference between the momma horses, the daddy horse, and the colts, and calls them accordingly.

he is never ready to leave.  while he has gotten a bit better with goodbyes each time, it is generally a battle to get him buckled into his carseat after seeing the horses.  he has mastered the arched back and is very strong.

i am so glad that he is so passionate about something, and really it has been fun for me to learn more about horses.  they never really caught my interest before.

it has become somewhat of a tradition that whenever we have family or friends in town, we take them with us to feed the horses.  it is always fun to share his enthusiasm, and i think everyone enjoys watching him!

....and on his farm he had a horse

hendrix's obsession with horsies continues.  it started several months ago, and while i really thought it was going to fade with time, it has not.

he really likes to watch this horse movie on youtube, and we have taken him to feed the horses on campus before.  In fact the other day when we were eating carrots with lunch, he said 'carrots' followed by 'horsies'.  Great connection pal! :)

We took a detour on our way to the superbowl game last night to feed the horses again, and it was just so fun! We told him that was where we were going and let him hold the carrots in the van, and he just kept saying 'horsies' and 'neigh-neigh' over and over again the whole ride there.

And then of course there were lots of tears when it was time to go......his delight is just so darn cute!

picking out our first tree

we went to the kidman tree farm this morning to pick out our very first live christmas tree.

hendrix kept saying "tree" and he helped us pick out his favorite one.  i thought he was so adorable walking around with his little mittens on....he did a great job keeping them on.  it was pretty chilly, so i am sure that had something to do with it.

then when he caught sight of the horses, he was done caring about the tree.

luckily they were giving horse drawn wagon rides ;)  we had a blast!

more photos to come soon of the decoration of the tree.

hendrix was quite the little helper.  ;)

(p.s. these photos were taken with my phone....sorry about the blurry quality.....)
