23 weeks

check out these crazy acrobatics.....blaire has her leg up over her head!  she was sure moving around a lot during this ultrasound, and managed to have both her kneecap and her fist both right up by her face at the same time......good thing those little limbs are made of rubber as of now!

my cervix measurement was exactly the same as it was at my last ultrasound, so both doc and i breathed a sigh of relief (for now anyways), and other than scheduling another ultrasound for in another three weeks, there is no other action needed.  looks like the cerclage will be unnecessary!  hooray ;)  there is still talk of progesterone shots, but we will revisit that based on what we find next time.

as for baby blaire; she is about the size of a mango, and with both her sense of hearing keenly picking up and her developing sense of movement, she can appreciate all these dance parties that hendrix and i have been having!  i will be curious to see if she responds to the intro music to all of hendrix's favorite tv shows after she is born. lol

by the way, hendrix's dance moves are becoming more varied everyday.....when i picked him up from my friend's house the other afternoon, he was doing ballerina twirls in their living room.   ;)

we are busy making plans for our vacation next week, and can't wait to spend some much needed time relaxing with our little family of three!  can't believe we are going to be saying farewell to the second trimester soon......

20 weeks {halfway there!}

while i still can't believe it, we have already hit the 20 week mark with this pregnancy!

on friday i had an ultrasound and got to see our sweet baby blaire again, which was really awesome!  i am amazed at how much transformation takes place in just a few weeks. her eyes were closed most of the time, and she kept putting her thumb in her mouth ;)  the tech did do some 3d shots of her, but they are not real clear images.  it takes a while for the image to render, and she was just moving too much to get a clear shot.  the tech said that we will probably have more luck with those the next time around as she will be bigger then and have less room to move around ;)

speaking of, we have another ultrasound scheduled for friday, the 29th, in just 3 weeks.  while blaire measured right on track for her new due date, my cervix measurement wasn't as good as the doctor would have liked, so she wants to check it again very soon.  last month my cervix measured at 4.5 cm and this month it was 4 cm.  while any number above 2 cm is considered stable at this point, she said that it shouldn't be shortening so rapidly yet, and that could pose a problem later on down the road.  she hasn't recommended any treatment at this point, just careful monitoring.

she also told me that she would like to see me gain some more weight ;)  that is the first time a doctor has ever told me that!  i am currently up only 3 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight, and apparently that is a little less than her preference.  i think i can attribute some of this to healthier eating as i have been cutting out fried and high fat foods (to avoid gallbladder troubles), so i honestly think that my weight seems healthier, but i will make an effort to eat snacks more often.  i just have trouble eating very much at one time these days.......my stomach is getting squished!

oh, and my belly button is starting to pop.  i really don't like that side effect.....it makes me feel like a stuffed turkey......

otherwise things are still going well over here.  the weather has gotten really warm, and i have loved spending a few afternoons at the pool with hendrix....that cool water is so refreshing!

here's to another uneventful 20 weeks ;)

a baby sister!

today we got to see our baby girl!

while today marks the 15 week mark according to my original dates, the purpose of this ultrasound was to determine if that was totally accurate.  because of my prior experience with delivering early, the doctor wanted as specific of a target date as we could possibly get.

we found that i was actually measuring big, and am more like 16 weeks along now (wow, it sure feels good to just drop a whole week of my pregnancy in just a day!) which meant that it was possible to tell that our little baby baum #2 is a girl ;)

we were hopeful that we might find out the gender today, but knew that it was not a for sure thing.  while the technician said she was pretty certain that it was a girl, we do get to have another ultrasound next month, so we can verify that news again then.

in the meantime, we have had lots of fun introducing hendrix to his new baby sister via her first photographs, and are thrilled to name her;

Blaire Robyn Baumgartner

she measured in at 4 ounces, and everything looked healthy and perfect.  she was wiggling around tons, and we even caught her sucking her thumb once. ;)

this mama was so excited about the prospect of pink and bows, that i actually already bought my first items for our little blaire. ;)

good thing garage sale season is in full swing, as i am going to have to do me some shopping!

hearing that everything looks good makes me feel more relaxed about my pregnancy and moving my due date makes me feel just a teensy bit better about looking so prego.

i should

 i'm further along than i thought i was!

my new due date is
October 27

IT'S A BOY!

This weekend has been a very big weekend for the Baumgartner family.

We found out in our ultrasound on Friday afternoon that we are having a little BOY!  Actually, he is not really all that little....at just 18 weeks he should probably be a little over 6 ounces in weight, but he actually weighs 10 ounces!

The ultrasound technician was able to capture lots of movement, including smiling, sucking and lots of kicking.  His little legs look long, and he's got knobby knees like his daddy. :)

Most thought that his smile looks more like an O'Polka smile than a Baumgartner smile.  The 3d images make it easy to see features of our little man, Hendrix James.

The other big event this weekend was the culmination of Bud's graduate degree in architecture.  We celebrated with family and friends before watching him walk in his cap and gown at Stephens Auditorium.

Well, that's all for now!  Pictures of our little man's growing wardrobe will follow. :)

Happy Weekend!
