weekend at the lake

for memorial day weekend, we were invited with some other families to join our friends at their lake house. it was the first time that we had ever been to lake panaroma, and it was absolutely gorgeous!

it was also the first time that hendrix had ever worn a life jacket, or experienced any water fun outside of the swimming pool.

he wasn't thrilled with the life jacket at first, and kept saying 'out' as he tried to pull it off.  mommy put one on loosely, just to set an example and make him worry about it less.

once the boat got moving, he was over it, and enjoyed the sounds and sights.  he wasn't thrilled with all the wind in his face when we got going real fast, but he put up with it okay.

our friends have a little puppy, aloe, and she sure made the ride more fun!  she would climb up to the front of the boat with no fear, and on a few occasions, hendrix thought he could do likewise....

before we knew it, he was walking around on the boat like a pro, and sporting huge grins!

later, we took him for a ride in the rowboat over to the swimming beach, to let him dig his toes into the sand.

he worked on his first sand castle with daddy.

the water was pretty chilly, so he preferred keeping a distance and just running up to the edge of the water, or throwing things into it.  the sand was by far the bigger hit.

it was nice to enjoy some family time relaxing, and we couldn't have asked for more perfect weather!

this guy is one 'cool dude' ;)

18 weeks

at 18 weeks, my tummy is starting to round out; and while it started low and flabby, it is most definitely trying to ride up into my ribcage and is becoming more solid as each day passes.  well i guess i have crossed into the "looks pregnant for sure club" as perfect strangers that i bump into at the store have asked me when i am due.  if i am toting my toddler (who usually is a handful at the grocery store) i sometimes get looks of sympathy (or is it pity?!), as people respond, "wow, you are going to have your hands full!"

don't i know it......

miss blaire is just busy growing like a weed, and apparently is now the size of a bell pepper, measuring 5 1/2 inches from head to bottom and weighing around 7 ounces.  her little uterus and fallopian tubes are completely formed, and her ears are fully developed and have now moved into their proper position.

as for me, i have been sleeping well still, and am not really noting any negative effects of this pregnancy.  in fact, i feel really great right now, and am thrilled to have a burst of energy that i was previously missing.  we spent almost the whole weekend outdoors on the lake with friends, and i enjoyed every minute of soaking up the sun!  i do run out of breath when i am exerting myself, especially if i am carrying hendrix at the same time, but i am getting used to that. ;)

i plan to share more about our weekend soon, but here is a quick photo of hendrix's first beach experience!

he loved it!

sesame street live

this weekend my sister-in law, hannah, and i took hendrix to see sesame street live: elmo's superheroes.

it was a really fun show, and hendrix even wore the same elmo shirt he wore when we went to see elmo last year.  how fun to see how much he has changed in just a year!

last year, he was a baby, he nursed, needed his diaper changed, and took a nap all in the middle of the show.  (don't get me wrong though, he still enjoyed it, just in a very different way than he did this year!)

this year, he is a toddler, an inquisitive, imaginative and energetic toddler.  he danced, clapped, cheered, ate popcorn....

...pointed at all the characters that he knew while shouting their names...

....climbed into the seats in front of us.

the show was a great success!

towards the very end he was starting to get tired (it was 12:30....which is a lil' past naptime,,,,) so he snuggled in my lap and wanted his paci, but really he did a great job sitting through the show.

we love elmo and all the other friends from 'the street' ;)

17 weeks

happy 17 weeks to me!

just for fun, i looked up my post from when i was 17 weeks with hendrix, and was amused to find that was also the week that i first started feeling his movements.

the same has been true with miss blaire this week.  i had felt some little flutters a couple weeks back, but was really not sure if it was gas or movements; this week those flutters were more defined and  i can definitely pinpoint them as 'baby'.

i notice it the most when i lay day in bed at night (but i wonder if that has more to do with being a time of day that i actually slow down and can pay attention in contrast to my bustling days, or if that is when she decides to be the most active). i also notice more movements right after i drink ice cold water.

looks like now, blaire should be about 5 ounces and 5 inches long.  she is growing like a weed, and this week her skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone.  i remain so in awe of how quickly all the body parts and systems develope....right now she is a perfectly formed little baby, and just needs to spend more weeks and months growing ;)

we love you so much, sweet girl!

oh, and hendrix has learned the word 'sister' this week.  i love being able to change my verbage from 'teh baby in mommy's tummy' to 'your little sister' when we talk about her.  and i am also trying to get used to saying, my children.  such a fun and big change!  ;)
