they are more than ready for a great school year!

i can't believe that my baby is almost a preschooler, but that is exactly what is happening.  

as a reward for her success with potty training, we went on a preschool visit to adventures preschool.  

adventures is the only coop preschool here in town, and is where hendrix has attended the past two years (2013, 2014).  the curriculum places a large emphasis on learning through play and the high adult/child ratio makes the collaborative learning environment such a healthy and nurturing one.

hendrix was super excited that blaire was going to be joining him at preschool for the day, and i was so pleased with how kind and attentive he was to her.  she followed directions and enjoyed all the daily activities with the other kids.

crafting remains one of his favorite activities!

some of the highlights from their day included a show-and-tell puppy visit,

lots of time in the sand table,

their own family-style-served healthy snack that they prepared,

and plenty of time outside in the fresh air!

i am so thankful that we found adventures and love the experiences that both of our kids will share from this awesome program!  

enrollment will be opening in just a few weeks for the 2015/2016 school year and children ages 3-5 are invited to enroll.

first day of preschool

little man went off to his first day of school today.  he is attending adventures preschool, the same preschool he went to last year; and we are excited to see what this new school year brings!

baby sister thinks that she is going to school too.  she had to get out her 'bag' and for some reason both my kids thought they needed their fleece jackets for school (it WAS almost 80 degrees here today, but apparently school means fall which means jackets, so they both wore one.  goofy kids)

end-of-year {preschool} program

hendrix's preschool had an end-of-year celebration last week complete with singing and performing followed by treats and energetic excitement.

i can't believe that we are already at the end of his first year of preschool.

it has been such an awesome experience and i am so thankful that we chose to send him to adventures!

we took his favorite snack of all time as our treat - rice krispie treats covered in sprinkles!

he was such a good little performer when they sang their songs....doing all sorts of crazy dance moves....

and even bowing after the songs.  the first one he made a particularly big effort of it, saying 'thank you mom' and 'thank you dad' with each bow.  what a ham ball he is.

like. seriously.

their 'pete the cat i love my white shoes' dance presentation was a blast, and i loved watching his proud little smirk as he moved through his parts.

then the kids presented a special art project to teacher lisa, as this was her final year (after 14 years) at adventures preschool and she will be greatly missed!

these two have so much patience and enthusiasm, and i have been so excited to watch hendrix grow and thrive under their direction.

he talks about school and the things that he does there in great depth at home and while he has made some huge leaps in the academic world of learning numbers, letters, shapes, and colors; more importantly he is learning incredibly invaluable life skills about sharing, expressing your feelings with words, patience, self control and independent thinking and actions.

i am not sure what i am going to do with this little ball of energy all summer.......

wordless wednesday {first day of preschool}

sent him off on his first day.  

he had a blast.

thankfully, he is a chatty fellow, and filled me in on every last detail on the van ride home.

i just love him.

this is going to be a fun school year!

my preschooler

yeap, that's right. 

i just signed this tiny little mister up for preschool.  

after our classroom visit we decided to enroll him at adventures preschool; a less traditional, co-op preschool here in town.

since he turns 3 just a week before the age cutoff, we feel really comfortable that this preschool environment will be the best fit for his energetic, enthusiastic and adventurous personality.

while there isn't a strict lesson plan scheduled for each day; there are so many opportunities to learn important skills in the midst of everyday play.  the classroom is full of awesome learning centers, and the emphasis on art seems strong, which is perfect for my "project" boy!  

There is also quite a bit of parental involvement in the classroom, and i am looking forward to having the opportunity to interact with and observe my son at school.

when we left after registering, he was sad because he thought we were coming back to class again, and he kept calling it "my school", so i think that is a good sign!

while a small part of me worries that we might be rushing him and sending him before he is ready, another part of me feels confident that he is capable and even needs the stimulation that this social environment will bring for him.

i am also genuinely excited to think that i will consistently have three mornings a week to spend solely focusing on blaire and the things that might interest her.  she honestly doesn't know what that is like right now!

i am going to resist the natural instinct to let this milestone make me feel old (hey, i'm not even 30 yet!) and instead just take a moment to reflect on how much joy this little man has brought to my life!  i am anxious to see him grow into a successful young student ;)
