Smiley Baby

So Hendrix is somewhat of a morning person.  I. am. not.  This gorgeous little face might convert me though if I keep waking up to his little contented coos as he plays in his crib by himself.

He just kept smiling and talking to me while I was getting him dressed this morning. :)

He continued his happy attitude all the way to work today......where he proceded to spend most of the day awake.  He was easily amused and didn't need to be held to stay content, so it was a fun day!

I guess he must have worn himself out though, because he has been zonked out all evening.

Dressed in Sunday Best

I just can't resist sharing this picture of my little man all dressed up for church this morning:

I love the clothes of fall.....the sweaters, the corduroys, the hats.....so much fun!

Two Months Already

I imagine that every mother thinks the time flies way too quickly, but I genuinely can't believe that Hendrix is two months old.  At the same time I really can't remember life without him, so I imagine that seems just about right.

He went in on Thursday for his 2 month well baby visit.

He weighed in at 11 pounds 14 ounces.

He measured 22.5 inches long.

Hendrix has gone from the 14th percentile in weight, to the 56th percentile in weight.  He has officially doubled his birth weight in just two months.  He is a very good eater and I guess he feels like he has some catching up to do.  I love seeing his healthy chub, and the doctor was very pleased with his growth.  We don't have to go back again until 4 months (the same time frame as term babies......no more preemie label for Hendrix!).

While at the doc, he also got three shots and one oral vaccine.

That was terrible not so bad I guess.

This sweet smiling face sure didn't last long after those pokes, and we didn't see it again until the following day. :(

Hendrix actually screamed for a full hour straight after we were home with the most pained cry I have ever heard.  It really tugged at this Momma's heartstrings, and we definitely gave him that does of tylenol that the doctor said we could resort to if needed, but she would rather we not for the sake of diluting the vaccine.  Oh. Well.

We both felt really badly for him and gave him all of our energy for special snuggles all evening.  Thankfully he woke up rested and in much better spirits in the morning.

Some of the two-month milestones include:
Smiling and cooing when being talked to, attempting to grasp objects with his hand, and increasing mobility and strength to be able to pull his head up and even push his body up with his arms while on his tummy.

Check the following sequence where for whatever reason, Hendrix decided to lift his legs up instead.....

Hendrix started enjoying being in the swing this last week.

And he can now ride facing forward in the baby bjorn.

It is funny though, because he still falls asleep in it!  Today we spent the better part of the afternoon raking leaves in our backyard (yes, we already did this once this fall, and, yes,  we will probably have to do it again.  We have a 100-year old tree in both the front yard AND the back yard!)

He enjoyed playing in the leaves ;)

We had a pretty good pile going....can you see the baby?!?!  LOL

After our outdoor fun, we had to get all showered and cleaned up.  I did indeed find little pieces of dried leaves in his nose!  He hung out in his robe like Daddy for a while before we got dressed for the day.

And then Hendrix decided to show off just exactly how big he is getting by rolling off the pillow he was propped on.  It really caught me off guard as I was just getting ready to take a movie of him laying there and smiling!

And lastly in the busy life of my two-month-old; he hung out with his two-week-old girlfriend again yesterday, and we remembered to take a pic of the two of them together this time!

I am not sure that they were pleased with us, but I think they will love seeing this when they are in high school!  lol  NOT that I am hoping that day gets here anytime soon.....

Halloween Treats

This little guy is all treat and no tricks!
It was so fun to celebrate his first Halloween!

He made an awfully cute bumblebee!

Bud and his Dad met up with us for a few minutes to check out Hendrix's buggy duds before I headed out to trick-or-treat with my some of my friends and their kids at the sorority and frat houses in our town.  This was on a separate night from our town's beggars night.

There were some very cute kids in our group and we got lots of candy!

When we got home, Hendrix told Daddy all about it!

Hendrix was happy to have another day of Halloween celebrations...

...and he gladly passed out candy and toothbrushes to the trick-or-treaters that came to our door.

We took turns taking him out in the neighborhood until he got tired of wearing his costume...

...and then he was just a cute little pumpkin with Momma!

My little brother Jake, and his girlfriend Katie came to visit us a little bit later.  Aren't they cute in their costumes?!?  They went with us to the Haunted Forest (which was pretty creepy, but holy cow - we waited in line for like 2 hours!)...

...my folks stayed back with Hendrix, which I think is exactly where they wanted to be!  :)

We had pretty nice weather, and overall Halloween was a great success!  Mommy and Daddy are still eating Hendrix's loot and contemplating what Hendrix should dress as next year.

Some Comparisons

This movie was taken yesterday of Hendrix.  I started noticing how large he was looking on his playmat and it made me want to compare him to what he was like the last time I took a movie of him playing on it.

This is from when he was only 2 weeks old......I can't believe how much he is changing!

1.5 weeks
2.5 weeks

5.5 weeks

7.5 weeks

Same story with his carseat; we had to put all the straps on the smallest setting possible to bring him home from the hospital.....and now he doesn't need any headrests, and he needs to have the straps readjusted because his shoulders are up too high for the current setting.

I am loving all his faces!

He is starting to actually respond with smiles and even a little cooing when we talk to him while he is playing.  I love it!  :)

Another Girlfriend!

Flora Joy Wellington
was born to a dear friend of mine, Karin, this past Saturday, October 23.

This now makes 5 girls born within the last two months to friends of mine, with no other boys.  Hendrix is just going to be a ladies man I guess. ;)

Daddy was giving him some pointers on how to impress her.  LOL Hendrix really was looking pretty intently at her....it was really cute!

She was such a little peanut to hold after being used to my growing son. What a precious bundle!

Hendrix really is growing lots.  He is 7 weeks old now, and is pretty much exclusively wearing his 3 month clothes.  Some of them (like this little raccoon sweater) are still a little baggy on him, but he has outgrown most of his newborn clothes specifically in the length.  He still isn't all that chubby, but he keeps stretching out.  I love trying new clothes from his closet on him.....it's so much more fun than playing with dolls was when I was a little girl!

I LOVE this face......I think he looks quite a bit like his daddy here.

I love this face too; it is his "seriously?" face!

The Kampman family came for a visit this weekend, and Hendrix enjoyed meeting his little (second) cousin Will.  Give them a few years, and I am sure they will enjoy playing with each other a lot more!  :)

We celebrated the Cyclones' win this weekend!  This was at a tailgate at Ames Center for Cosmetic & Family Dentistry which is where I work.

As is becoming the norm, Hendrix was passed around and adored. ;)  He loves the attention!

Grandma spent some time with us over the weekend.  They looked really cute snuggled up on the couch together for a nap, and then she read him some books before bedtime.  He loved it! I think that he is starting to look at the pictures more now....I'm still not sure how far he can see, but I have noticed him crossing his eyes sometimes while he is trying to focus on something so I think his vision is improving.

Yesterday we decided to carve our pumpkins.

Which actually means, we decided to watch daddy carve our pumpkins.

And then we left daddy alone to carve pumpkins while we went and played. :)

He did a great job!
